Friday - Golf, Fishing, Food

This morning we played at The Hemlock, where Rolfe had a great score but the rest of us looked like total duffers. The weather was much better for part of the round, and then it became overcast.

Then it was back to the cottage for lunch and a big pitcher of Rob's new drink, the "Skip and Go Naked". Rob's recipe includes:

  • four (4) light beers
  • one (1) fifth of vodka
  • two (2) cans of lemonade concentrate
  • lots of ice

(I should mention that there was no nakedness involved.)

Then we played euchre, where Rob and I had an early 3-0 lead in our best of seven set. However, Rolfe and Dave (as usual) won four straight games, and ended up taking the best of seven series by one game. Rob and I are fairly sure they dealt from the bottom at least once.

Afterward, we climbed down the scariest set of steps ever to the creek and fished the eddies near the waterfall. Dave acted as both photographer and our sherpa, heading back up the stairs to bring us back beer and replacement fishing poles. (Note to self: the next time we have this cottage, we can leave poles at home but line and sharp hooks will be essential, and a good spare reel wouldn't hurt.)

I caught a mess of smallmouth bass and crappies (including one that might have been a 'keeper') and Rolfe pulled in a lot of rainbow trout! Rob had more fall off his line than he brought in, but we all had steady action for an hour or two. We stood in the current most of the time, and had a lot of fun. It was very cold, though, which I discovered when I tripped on an old dock and stumbled in past my waist. (Note to self #2: water shoes would be way better than crocs since the zebra mussel shells were painful when they got in your shoes.)

And finally, we enjoyed deep-fried asparagus at the Stony Lake Yacht Club. Although Dave swears he doesn't remember even going there.

Sure didn't feel like Friday, which is a good thing! All in all, today was a terrific day of golf, fishing, euchre, movies, and food. It doesn't get much better!
